I really like British Council’s orchestral sample. It has a playful edge which is very appealing. I wrote the lyrics several weeks ago but never uploaded. So here is a mildly sinister, yet winsome romp (perhaps in the Jeeves & Wooster school of song stylings) in which somebody who has flown the coop appears to have the last laugh.

Lyrics:

Near the pond
A fountain stands
A statue of St. Anthony
The frozen water
Hangs in stillness
A gray sky mimics apathy.
I’ve seen you there
With your small notebook
Intent on capturing some deep thought…
About the loss of Time and Seasons
Summer Pageants cold with frost.
As if the whole world was depending
On a phrase placed just so –
The lyric which you try and capture
To warm some blue-skinned Eskimo.

Those blackbirds flying all around you
Their mocking cries attack your ears
I wish them dead all four and twenty…
To give you four and twenty years…
Of unbroken balmy silence…
Of years to squander as your own
On a sun-drenched tropic island
From where you’d write a letter home.

Urging us to leave the Tundra
The empty places Winter chills…
And join you in your world of flowers
And palm trees swaying on the hills.
