A Charmed Life

An original lyric.
I did not know my Daddy ‘twas said he was some Rouge Although I have a photo I misplaced it long ago. My Mother was the Tattooed-Lady In the Carnival We never had a proper home No place to call our own. My Best-Friend was a Dutchman, A smuggler and a rake We rode the county highways Our pleasures there to take. A thousand girls And some boys too Fell prey to our mad schemes We smoked their hopes like Opium And later pawned their dreams. I joined the foreign Navy And sailed the seven seas And met with Pirate Annie Down in the Blue Carribe… We spawned a dozen children Sold ‘em to Siam’s King And with the money that we made We bought our wedding rings. I met with Dr. Munro An Argonaut of Stars Who built a glittering Rocket-ship In which we traveled far. On Venus we discovered a race of Amazons Who took a liking to us As Nymphs will take to Fawns. And in that magic kingdom We stayed for seven years, ‘Till we grew lonesome for the earth And for our earthly dears. Now I am an old man One-Hundred-Twenty-five A posh Townhouse in London A white Rolls-Royce to drive. And as I write my Memoirs I cannot help but think How charmed has been my lot in life How sweet the wine I drink.
