This one’s given me shivers up and down my spine and brought tears to my eyes - in a really good way. A wonderful setting for jacinda’s moving voice and words.

Thank you - that’s very nice to read. I really tried to make sure the vocals were the centrepiece and not overcome by the other elements. Really glad you liked. Thanks again. |

I hope you didn’t put too much interesting stuff on the right side of the stereo field, because the right side of my hearing is on vacation right now. But I do like what I am hearing on the left side. You really tamed the drums and bass to fit in with the overall mood of this song. A very fine piece of work.

Thanks! What you call “tamed” other people may call “bully” or even “coerced”. I used a dist effect and some freq level automation to get them to fit in, and I don’t think they were too hurt in the process. Thanks for leaving a review. Hope your hearing is better soon. I had that a while back after a bad cold, and it was really stressful before it came back. |

Really well delivered C. The piano clearly works a treat and the subtle background bouncing synth melody works very well (Toward the beginning). Even the detail, such as your filtered fills sound really pro.
For me, the vocal is only slightly too loud for the music in parts (I understand the vocal does fluxuate a fair bit). The single note key delays above the bed of ambient chord holds are also really effective. Real nice job squire |

The single note key delays above the bed of ambient chord holds are also really effective. Real nice job squire . Thanks! You’re quite right re: the vocal volumes - I did bring it down in places, but it would require more work to fix the individual phrases here and there. Re: single notes / ambient chords - I actually duplicated the “synth rhodes” device I used so that one played only a single chord and the other played a repeating line. That gave me a bit more flexibility in phasing in and out the two elements. Thanks for leaving a review - much appreciated! |

Colab, I don’t know how you do it. How you take a sound and envision it so far from where it came. Maybe it is just experimentation, I don’t know. In some ways it feels as though I do the same thing, in a totally different way. Thanks again for finding a place to use something I’ve put up. The bass was already heavily processed, but you found some place. I love the textures and simplicity of this piece. It feels not at all coerced. Looking forward to the next from you I hear. I’ll be glad to post snippets anytime you’d lay something down.

Well, yes - it’s experimentation. I had started out with the vague idea that I was going to use the full loop so I created a REX version of bite-sized chunks. Then I found the soundscape was a bit too dense to use that way, so I tried out a few isolated bass slices, which created a really cool effect of messy bass while still leaving space to play with. But I didn’t have anything in mind when I started - just figured something would come out of it. :) Thanks for leaving a review - I do appreciate it. |

Piano has an enchanting sound and chords, it really shines and give light to the whole piece. The entagled shimoda is not messy, good work. I agree with scott on the voice, but the original pella is a difficult track to work with.
And, in the end, it is a beautiful song that gives emotions. ciao f |

Thanks! That piano sound is becoming one of my favourites - it’s the Challen piano from the Abbey Road studios, and it has a lot of character. The actual piano notes themselves are quite simple - just a few notes that wander about. :) Thanks for leaving a review. Ciao. :) |

Against all my promises to write reviews earlier, I am here very late, just checked in at ccmixter and found this here. Mikael, I am totaly in love with this track. It has so much romantic and warm ambient/pop feeling. The steady pad and the processed bass of shimoda as well for the echoed..oed..oed.ooed e piano and the very lyrical piano chords in the beginning. This is all done so well for the whole composition with a very positive mood that I think this is really one of your very best tracks so far.
For me, my personal Ed Pick!! I would like to see if someone of the ed pickers would think like me :-). Bravo, Bravo, Bravo!! |

On first listening I thought you had pushed the envelope too far this time.
I like variation in mixes that go against the traditional but here I felt the additional sounds too intrusive. SO…. I watched as everyone else commented and had another listen. And guess what? I like it more than the first time but it does take a few listens which is not such a bad thing! |

Well, you probably should have gone with your gut feel. If it doesn’t hook you immediately, then you shouldn’t have to work at it. But of course I’ll change my mind about this in about an hour. :) Thanks for leaving a review. |

I think I can identify a “colab” remix when I hear one (one of these days I’m going to try a blind test…)
A colab-remix sounds like this to me: 1) Clean, crisp 2) Thoughtful, Rhythmic 3) Relaxed, Mindful 4) Jazzy, bluesy feel 5) Familiar, yet New 6) Technically proficient (where the simplicity belies the complexity) I realised I might be sprouting complete B.S., a show of artistic-pretense. But I mean every word. Besides, I listened to the song as I wrote the review :) Oh, and I always, always have to tell myself to get rid of my ego when listening to colab’s work. And reading the reviews others leave for him. Heh. |

Well, it’s probably a good amount of B.S. - but I’ll take it. :) Thanks though - really nice to get the positive feedback. Although after your review, I probably shouldn’t tell you how quickly I put it together. :) |

I appreciate it. Although I also don’t think you should have had to go through a few listens - I knew I took a few risks with this track and it’s completely OK for you to not love it. :) Thanks though - I do appreciate you leaving a comment about it. |

I dunno, sometimes songs I hate on first listen turn into my favorites after I hear them a few times. :) I certainly didn’t mean to insult.

No worries, and thanks. I’ll work with your vocals again soon and give you more opportunities to comment (because your voice is just so good!). :) |

As I poke around some of the “older” mixes (ironic, calling a piece that has been around for approximately 6 weeks old — just things move so fast around here) — I am so glad I stopped by. What a fantastic amalgomation of elements. I love the bass sound. Thanks for a terrific listen!

Thanks for that! I really appreciate you going back to my “older” tracks. :) When I joined CCM I had a blend of amazement at the range of material being there and a guilt of not being able to go through it all. :) Glad you liked this one. |
