Now that’s just delightful to hear - thank you.

You have just the nicest voice to work with - I’m kicking myself for not getting around to making a track sooner, but there you go. One of the side effects of ccm is that there will always be more uploads available to work with than there is time in the day. :)

Thanks again - I’m really pleased you liked, especially since it’s a sort of simple niche track.

And thank you too for listening. After my last track I knew there was another angle I wanted to explore - something slower and less dense - to really showcase Emily’s vocals.

Thanks for the kind words - always means a lot.

Thank you.

Re: mood - I don’t know. The excellent thing about ccm is that you can have an interpretation for every mood. Radiotimes’ version is still one of my all-time favourites.

My version has less fighting spirit left, and is more worn and tired - with possibly just a little bit of hope at the end of it all. :)

Thanks for taking the time to listen, and to leave a review.

This easily goes under one of my colab-favourites. Read your “how I did it”. . Having remixed this pell earlier, I know what you mean by resisting the urge to throw in drums etc. I can appreciate how much more work and creativity this would require. In ways that I don’t think I can fully explain, you’ve turned the inherent chord arrangement in the original pell to something that’s familiar and yet wonderfully off-tangent. The original pell’s arrangement had a sort of dark tone to it. Yours gave this a more cheery “norah jonesy” feel to it. I’m not a fan of R&B sort of music but this one I’m downloading for keeps.

Re: chord progression - thanks. It was fun to approach each section from scratch to see what I could get away with. For instance - the sections where Emily sings “apologize / I’m sorry / I’m sorry / …” do an G# major to F major switch which takes some liberties. :)

Thanks for the review - much appreciated.

Thanks - I very much appreciate it, both because I spent a lot of effort on that, and because I respect your opinion.

This pella was perfect to work with, because the recording is flawless and it helped me identify areas in my production I need to work on. For instance, at one point when making this I noticed a hiss throughout that I realized I was causing with some rather novice production techniques. :)

Thanks - really glad to get the support on this one.

Wonderful chord choices. Only few instruments, sounds so easy but for sure was hard to create. And not drowned in FX - so rare today. I love it!

Thanks - that really made me smile, because your words really describe the journey I’ve been on for the past couple of years. :)

At different points in this process I had a very hectic piano line that played throughout; rhodes that wouldn’t shut up and even drums that created a cacaphony of noise. Throwing all of that into the mix was really easy. Figuring out what parts to pull back out again was pretty tough. :)

What made it easier this time around though was Emily’s vocals, which are so strong that they could almost stand on their own with little or no backing.

Thanks for the review - really nice to read.

P.S. - there are a few different reverbs going on in this, but applied very gently. I’m glad you didn’t notice. :)

Trust me - it never ends. As recent as this week I stumbled across some pretty bad mixing habits I’ve had for a while now and never noticed.

The good news is that ccm is a pretty safe place to experiment and learn. :)

Not taking anything anything away from Snowkflake here but I am just missing the unity of the vocal and backing here. So i think you know what i am going to ask you to do if you possibly could and thats give up the backing for me to try and write something to it. :-)

Done. If you need a particular part separated or re-recorded, just let me know and I’ll be happy to help.

Re: unity - doesn’t take anything away from Snowflake. I did the instrumentation for this pella, so if there’s a disconnect it’s all me. :)

Sorry to hear about the cold, but glad we could help. :)

I started this track as a bit of an experiment in harmonies/chord transition - which is always dangerous because it could end up being more interesting than good, so to speak.

So I am very pleased to get the thumbs up - that means a lot.

Apologize fort being late here and for so many other things my friend,… you know…!

I was off for a couple of weeks, work sucked out all of my energy and today is a day where I wanted to have a listen a time for a view reviews.

And then, I saw there a new ed pick. Wow! Congratulations for that. I am happy for you. An overdue ed pick (I don_t want to repeat my thoughts to Martin Scorcese and his oscar…. ;-) )

You have created a very tasty composition here, so decent and I am glad that you didn_t put in there drums. This is just a perfect arrangment for snowflakes vocals.

This is a very good job!

Wishing you and your family merry christmas and a happy new year!

( I am going to start on making music in the mid of january…)

Hello my friend - good to see you here again.

Thanks for the very kind words. You know that I’ve always appreciated your personal ed-picks in the past - it’s always meant a lot because you’re one of the few people who will tell me when something is not good. :)

Merry Christmas to you too. We’ll chat over beers one of these days.

Nice work, colab! Your ‘How I did it’ made me smile (‘I didn’t quantize the playing - so it’s not 100% tight. I’d say 70% of the odd timing is intentional and the remaining 30% is, umm, _not_.’)
Let me say that there wasn’t one moment during the song that I listened to or even thought about the timing.. I just listened to it and let it come over me. And enjoyed it very much!

Thank you for that. I like that attitude. :)

I could fix the minor timing issues and make it all “perfect” - but in doing so I would also lose something …

Thanks for the very nice review. Much appreciated.

Exquisitely sensitive so that all the instrumentation is congruent and reflective of the tone and message of Snowflake’s vocal and lyric. You also harmonize the song in ways that are deeply, deeply felt so that your track becomes a gentle, yet incredibly persuasive message, so that I want to get it right and apologize.

Congrats on a much deserved ed pick Mikael. And a very merry Christmas to you and yours.

Now that’s just a sweet thing to hear.

I’ll admit that this started out as a bit of technical trickery - I wanted to challenge how far I could go with create a sort of light mood while still being true to the lyrics. For a while I was worried that it would end up being a completely insincere mess - so I’m particularly pleased to get the positive response.

Same to you - hope you get a great Christmas holiday to recharge. Thanks for all the support this year.

Thank you - that means a whole heck of a lot. Especially because I had a few versions early on that were the total opposite of controlled and restrained.

Thanks again. I always appreciate getting a review from you, because I think you’re one of the best traditional composers around here. Merry Christmas.

Thanks! I think I mentioned somewhere above that I had a version that was the polar opposite - had a busy piano and really hectic drums - until I sort of caught myself and went back to basics.

Seems that it was the right decision. :)

Where was I during xmas? Guess I missed this one. I especially like the Bachrachian close harmonies on the “chorus”, if I may call it that. One doesen’t hear enough of this kind of keyboard sound these days. Really good.

I thought you wrote “bacchanalian”, which would have worked too. :)

Thanks for the kind words - I’m very glad you liked. Although it feels weird to get this much attention for a track that took me a very short time to make. You can hear the keys being repeated quite a few times throughout.

Ah well. I guess that goes with the reuse, reduce and recycle concept. :)
