Overlooked tracks that deserve to be highlighted

I was just listening through my list of favourites and came across a track that I just absolutely love - it hits all my buttons with its quirky beats/blips - it’s my favourite sort of electronica … yet it only has 4 recommends.

So I figured I’d start a thread for people to spotlight favourite yet largely overlooked tracks from the archive.

My first entry is this one.

Any others?

How would you feel about putting together a podcast featuring overlooked tracks?

I wouldn’t be able to find the time, honestly. It’s split between work, 4-year old, doing some graphics design work on the side; and all the beer drinking. :)

It’s a great idea though - in fact MCJiTB did that for a special anniversary edition of his podcast one time.

Too bad. You have a great ear — but clearly, you also have a very full life! Maybe someone else will take the ball and run with it — a podcast featuring overlooked tracks would be a great addition to our podcast programming.

I was always a fan of that one. Even had the RSS feed going. :)

Let us know if and when you start up again - that was an excellent way to feature lost tracks.

ok. but you should still post your choices here. so should others.

and i’d even expand that to include long forgotten pellas and source. although for me, that’s like mining for gold, and i usually keep my claims quiet until after i strike them. :)

And here’s a second one in a different style. Fantastic track.

Trust me. :)

And sorry for spamming this forum, but here’s a third one that to my ears just define that early 90s light pop. It’s exquisite.

Listening through another set of favourites and came across this one.

Elegant smooth rap with an incredibly cool and laidback instrumental to go with it.

And this.

This might have been overlooked in the recent secret mixter stuff but is one of the most incredible electronic songs I’ve heard in a long time.

Take the time to listen to it - it’s the best 3 minutes you’ll spend.

Heres another: I like this song so much, that I don´t even dare to download it. It´s so fragile and beautiful like an iceflower! And the artist went off this place a long, long time ago.

Yes. That’s exactly what I’m talking about.

I usually listen to all new tracks posted, but I don’t remember ever hearing this one before.

Thanks for highlighting it.

There are so many remixes here and so many good ones. I have only seen the tip of the iceberg…an deep down, there must be some hidden jewels.

Think, I probably have another example.
I am still listening to this track in my car and really, really like it.

Here it is: Time to go - chandubaba

Yeah. I like the idea of you sitting in your car and listening to ccmixter-masterpieces that you discovered some time ago.

I just started doing that myself - I went back to my running list of favourites and rearranged into categories, then downloaded to my iPod.

There are a lot of tracks here that easily stand shoulder to shoulder with tracks I’ve bought through iTunes.

Here are two more I’d like to highlight because they’re both quite excellent (to me) and very overlooked.

The first one is a lovely little gem by ManoloCamp. It takes a while to build up but is so worth sticking with.

The second one is from CRAPKOT and is pretty much exactly everything I want from an electronic instrumental track.

Check them out. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

And how could I possibly have neglected to mention this one?

This track led me to use the most excellent spoken word in a track of my own, and it is important to me for two reasons:
- it has exactly the type of build-up I like to use myself
- it has exactly the type of build-up I get impatient with when listening to other people’s music in a hurry and need to be hooked in the first 30 seconds.

Excellent track though. Don’t miss it.

I hope samples can be mentioned.

I was always surprised nobody ever remixed this one! (Boiler’s Bust by Hexyl Circle)
